Hockey has certainly been a family affair for Alan. Not only has he inherited his mum’s ability of scoring hatfuls of goals, he’s also played internationally alongside his brother David for Scotland under the leadership of their father Derek.
After making his debut for Scotland aged 20 in 2012, Alan’s goalscoring prowess earned him a first call-up to play for Great Britain in 2015 and he immediately found the target on his debut against Argentina.
He has since become a mainstay in attack for both teams and scored his 100th international goal at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre as he bagged a hat-trick against Malaysia in the FIH Olympic Qualifiers. He was then a reserve at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Alan also was part of the Scotland squad that competed at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and helped them to EuroHockey Champs II gold in 2017, securing their promotion to the top tier for the first time in more than a decade.
Alan represented Scotland again at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
