James made his debut for Great Britain and England in 2017 where he spent 2 years in the programme, but due to injuries along the way it meant it was a difficult journey. However, he overcame this and captained England against India in April 2022, and played in the FIH Pro League against Spain in February 2022. Later that month he was confirmed as a part of the Great Britain Training squads for the Paris 2024 cycle.
James has gone onto represent England at the 2023 EuroHockey Championships and the 2023 World Cup. He helped qualify GB for Paris 2024.
