Scintillating Scotland Reach Euro Semi-Finals But Wales Lose

Scotland's men produced a brilliant performance when they needed it most as they thrashed Switzerland 6-0 to reach the semi-finals of the EuroHockey Championships II.
Knowing only a victory would be enough to see them progress, they raced into a two goal lead in the first quarter through Robert Field and captain Alan Forsyth, who struck twice more - either side of a Robbie Shepherdson goal - in the third quarter to complete his hat-trick.
Struan Walker rounded out a fine performance with his second goal of the tournament to make it six and book Scotland's place in the final four. Following this match, Ukraine and Austria played out a 1-1 draw that meant Scotland finished second in Pool B.
Having already secured their place in the semi-finals in their second game, Wales' women headed into their final Pool A fixture hoping to beat Poland and finish top of the group.
Captain Marlena Rybacha opened the scoring for Poland before Isabelle Howell scored for the third game in succession to level the scores going into half-time.
Two quickfire goals from Rybacha and Wiktoria Blaszyk in the third quarter saw Poland take the victory though, leaving Wales to finish second in their group.
They will take on the women's Pool B winner at 16:00 BST on Friday 20 August, following on from Scotland's semi-final against the men's Pool A winner at 13:45 BST. Both games will be streamed live on the EuroHockey TV website.
