What is Next for the Three Home Nations Squads

With 5 out of the 6 Home Nation Squads competing at EuroHockey Championships Qualifiers, it is time for the squads to become one in preparation for the FIH Pro League which starts in November. The men’s squad have already started training and the women’s squad are due to return to training early October.

For the fourth season of the Global FIH Pro League, the men’s and women’s teams will play a series of mini tournaments, with both teams starting of in Argentina, in December, where they will play the Netherlands and Argentina. This will be followed by a mini tournament in April, where both squads will travel to New Zealand to play New Zealand and Australia. The final two mini tournaments will occur in London from the end of May to the end of June, where the women will face China, Belgium, Germany and USA, and the men will face India, Belgium, Germany, and Spain.

For English and Welsh Men’s squads, they are competing at the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 in India. England and Wales will face eachother as well as hosts India and Spain. The 15th edition of the tournament will run from 13-19 January 2023 in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela in the state of Odisha, India.

Pool B: Belgium, Germany, South Korea and Japan

Pool C: Netherlands, New Zealand, Malaysia and Chile

Pool D: India, England, Spain and Wales

After the World Cup and the FIH Hockey Pro League, each of the home nations will be competing in respective Euro Hockey Championships.

  • England and Scotland Women will be taking part in the Women's Euro Hockey Championship in Mönchengladbach, Germany between 18-27 August 2023. 
  • Wales Women will be taking part in the Women's Euro Hockey Championship II in Prague, Czech Republic between 31 July - 5 August 2023.
  • England and Wales Men will be competing in the Men's Euro Hockey Championship in Mönchengladbach, Germany between 18-27 August 2023. 
  • Scotland Men will be competing in the Men's Euro Hockey Championship II in Dublin, Ireland between 23-29 July 2022.
