Goalkeeper - Senior Women
Maddie shot to international sporting prominence during the Rio 2016 Olympics with her acrobatics and penalty shootout heroics, saving four efforts as GB won a memorable gold.
That followed a similarly stunning performance that saw England claim a first EuroHockey title against the same opponents the year before. In addition, she was voted the FIH World Goalkeeper of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Maddie may not have taken up the sport had it not been for her PE teacher, who noted her willingness to throw herself about while playing rounders and suggested she might be better suited in a hockey goal.
Having starred for England during the 2018 Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup, Maddie took a break from international hockey before returning during the 2019 FIH Hockey Pro League. She then played a crucial role in securing Great Britain's place at the 2020 Olympics before helping them secure bronze with a string of fine displays, most notably saving all four shootouts in the quarter-final against Spain.
