Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament
3. Great Britain
Standings at end of day three
Like many of the Olympic sports featuring at London 2012, hockey has a test event. The Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament will be used by the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) to test key operations ahead of the Games including the field of play, video referral, timing, scoring and results systems. The event, which is expected to welcome up to 60,000 spectators, will be run alongside six other Olympic test events taking place in the Park at the same time.
Four women’s and four men’s teams will compete in two separate competitions for the Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament titles. Each team will play one match against each other in the preliminary phase from 2–5 May. There will be a rest day for the teams on Friday 4 May.
The first and second place teams will then play each other in the final on Sunday 6 May and the third and fourth place teams will play off for the final ranking positions.
Extra time: If there is a draw at the end of any of these matches; the team that scores the first goal – the golden goal – wins the match.
Shoot-out: If there is still a draw at the end of extra time, a shoot-out competition will follow. The team scoring the most goals at the end of the series of five shoot-outs each wins the match. If the shoot-out ends in another draw, a sudden-death shoot-out will take place.
Video referral will operate during the event and spectators will be able to see all the action close up on the large TV screen at the venue.
An incredible array of talent will be on show at the Olympic test event, which features:
Women: Great Britain (Champions Trophy silver medallists), Argentina (World Champions), China (2008 Olympic silver medallists) and Korea (World #8)
Tickets will be on sale for the Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament on Thursday 15 March 2012.
