Barry Middleton

Despite being one of the most mild mannered individuals around, Barry Middleton will go down as one of the sport’s greatest ever players.

He is one of only a handful of players to have appeared in more than 400 international games – bringing up the milestone at the 2017 Hockey World League Final - with his tally of 432 making him the most capped England and Great Britain player of all time.

Since making his international debut aged just 19 in 2003, Barry appeared at four Olympic Games, four World Cups, four Commonwealth Games and eight EuroHockey Championships.

He also captained both the England and Great Britain sides on various occasions, including leading the former to European gold back in 2009, and GB to their best Olympic finish in a quarter of a century in London.

Barry was also nominated for the FIH Player of the Year award in 2018 having been named in the FIH All Stars team in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
