Alex Danson

Alex was just 16 when she made her senior international debut in 2001, when she was also runner-up in the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. A team regular, she was named in the FIH’s World All Stars Team 2011. Her goal helped England defeat Germany to win bronze at the 2010 World Cup. She won a bronze medal at London 2012, her second Olympics, where her and team mate Crista Cullen were joint top scorers. Danson also played a pivotal role in England's 2015 EuroHockey triumph, including a stunning hat-trick against Germany which took her to 50 England goals. Her third Olympics in Rio proved to be just as fruitful, Danson helped herself to five goals once more and went all the way to the top of the podium, snagging the dream gold medal.
She loves keeping active and enjoys surfing, snowboarding, climbing and cycling. She has recently completed an OU degree and hopes to go into teaching, a career that ties in nicely with her work as an Athlete Mentor for Sky Sports Living for Sport and the Youth Sport Trust.
