Champions Trophy Match Schedule Confirmed
08.12.07Following the conclusion of the round robin phase, the classification matches for the final day of the Champions Trophy have been confirmed. Great Britain, who finished in sixth spot, will play at 07:05 GMT in the 5 v 6 play-off against Spain tomorrow. The winner of this game will secure a place in the 2008 Champions Trophy. The Brits will be looking to banish Thursday’s 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Spanish and will be buoyed by this morning’s determined performance against Korea.
Olympic Champions Australia and World Champions Germany will go head to head in the final in a replay of today’s match which saw the Aussies defeat the Germans 5-0. The match will also be a repeat of the 2006 World Cup Final which saw Germany come from 3-0 down to win 4-3.
Korea’s 2-2 draw against Great Britain saw them miss out on a spot in the final and they will now face a battle for bronze against 2006 Champions the Netherlands. The wooden spoon match will be between Pakistan who finished in seventh place and host side Malaysia who failed to win a single game in the round robin phase and whose defence has leaked more goals (23) than any other team.
