GBHL is seeking candidates for the position of President following Roger Self’s decision to stand down as a result of ill health. The role is an honorary one and may require up to 50 days per annum particularly in the Olympic year itself.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DESCRIPTON OF THE PRESIDENT
Introduction
GBHL is a membership organisation comprising the three Home Countries and is the body responsible for delivering Great Britain’s success for hockey at the Olympic Games. Much of GBHL’s work is delegated to the Nominated Country’s senior executive (GB’s Chief Operating Officer), it’s Performance Director (GB’s Performance Director-GBPD) and it’s Head Coaches who have been given additional GB duties. Key tasks of the GBHL Board are thus to undertake:

Approving GBHL’s submission to UK Sport for funding the GB performance plan – a supplementary submission to the individual funding submissions by each of the 3 Home Nations.

A formal annual review of the Nominated Country’s progress against plan whereby the GBPD and Head Coaches present what they have achieved.

In the run up to the Olympics, the performance of the Nominated Country is reviewed against clearly defined criteria. A Nominated Country is then chosen for a further four years after the Olympics and the FIH are advised accordingly.

GBHL has statutory responsibilities.
It is likely that the GBHL Board will meet two or three times a year until the fourth year of the Olympic cycle when it is likely to meet more frequently.

Responsibilities of the President
Chair of the GBHL Board:

Represent GBHL at various events including:

Olympic Games, qualifying events, tournaments and matches involving Great Britain men’s and women’s teams

FIH, BOA and LOCOG events and meetings, in conjunction with the Nominated Country

UK Sport events and meetings, in conjunction with the Nominated Country

Ensure that the legal and statutory requirements of GBHL are being properly maintained and that GBHL is fulfilling its obligations as outlined in the Business and Performance Framework Agreement
Establish a working relationship and regular communication with the Nominated and Non Nominated Countries. Specifically the President will:

Attend the Nominated Country Board meetings (or in his/her absence ensure that one of the Independent Directors attends)

Be available to meet with the Non Nominated Countries’ boards if required at least twice a year

Attend events and meetings, at the invitation of the 3 Home Countries

Ensure that the Board is properly constituted and structured and that the Board members have the appropriate skills and experience to undertake their roles
With the support of the GB Performance Director and GB Chief Operating Officer handle any major issues relating to the role, participation and conduct of Great Britain’s hockey teams and of GBHL. Day to day performance and business matters have been delegated to the Nominated Country
