GB EDP Women Narrowly Lose To Germany In Four Nations

GB EDP W v Germany 4N
Germany 2 (1)

Great Britain 1 (0)
Hunt (FG)

A late goal saw Germany edge to victory over the GB Women’s EDP squad at the invitational Four Nations tournament in China.

It didn’t take long for Germany to take the lead as they found themselves ahead at the end of the first quarter.

However Great Britain put their opponents under plenty of pressure afterwards, forcing the ‘keeper into a number of saves.

There was nothing she could do to keep out Holly Hunt’s effort in the third quarter though as the University of Birmingham player pounced on a loose ball following a corner.

The final quarter was a thrilling affair with both sides having chances to win the game but it was to be the Germans who would snatch it late on.

Despite the final scoreline, head coach Kevin Johnson was left feeling upbeat after the game.

“There was a lot to be positive about in our performance today,” he said.

“After a first quarter where we had to soak up a lot of pressure from a strong and skilled German unit, we grew confidently into the game and enjoyed some fine spells across the final three quarters of the match and were very unlucky not to get something in the end.

“We are showing good improvement with our understanding and application of match objectives and are looking forward to the very different challenges that Australia and China will pose in our next games.”

Next up for the Women’s EDP is Australia at 06:00GMT on Tuesday 6 November.
