Victory for GB Women's EDP keeps bronze hopes alive

GB W EDP SN 2018

The GB Women's EDP ended the group stages of their Six Nations campaign on a high with a gritty win over Canada, ensuring silverware is still very much a possibility.

A goalless first half burst into life early in the second as Erica Sanders scored yet again to give Great Britain the lead.

However Canada hit back and equalised shortly after but they weren't level for long as Hannah MacLeod's side responded almost immediately, with Charlotte Watson deflecting the ball past the opposition 'keeper at the back post after a superb team move.

That ensures that the team will be battling for a bronze medal later today, something which MacLeod thinks will be key to their development.

She said: “The team dug deep today and responded very well to conceding a goal. They returned to their processes and immediately scored with some excellent team play.

"These are valuable lessons for the players and we’re very pleased to have the opportunity to finish this tournament with a must win game for silverware.

"GB teams need to win medals consistently at junior level to develop the winning mentality required at senior level."
