Great Britain Hockey is pleased to announce that nine officials from all three home nations have been appointed for next year’s XXI Commonwealth Games to be held on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Two umpires from each home nation have been selected, with Jamie Hooper and Cathy Wright of Wales, Emma Shelbourn and Paul Walker from England and Scotland’s David Sweetman and Sarah Wilson set to take charge of matches between 5-14 April 2018.

In addition, Karen Evans of Wales will also be travelling Down Under as an Umpire Manager, as will Scottish official Ged Curran, while fellow Scot Victoria Truesdale will feature as a Technical Official.

With all of the above plying their trade across the English and Scottish National Leagues on a weekly basis, as well as supporting their National Associations in all of their domestic competitions, the appointments have been earned and shows how strong all facets of domestic hockey are within Great Britain.

Speaking about his selection, Paul Walker said: “I am delighted to be appointed for the 2018 Commonwealth Games  which I think is going to be a wonderful experience.

“It is an exciting opportunity to take part in an elite men's hockey tournament taking place as part of a large, multi-sport competition.

“I see this tournament as part of my development going forward due to the quality of the teams that compete in the tournament and the experiences that can be gained from umpiring some of the best players in the world.

“I look forward to working with the panel of officials appointed, which includes some old friends and new colleagues I've not worked with before.”

The Commonwealth Games is the start of a big year of hockey for the home countries, with London hosting the Women’s Hockey World Cup just three months later at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.
