Quek off to conquer the jungle

GB celebrate during the Olympics

After weeks of speculation, last night it was confirmed that Olympic Gold Medalist Sam Quek is swapping the blood sweat and tears of hockey training for the bush tucker trials of the jungle.

Quek is confirmed as one of the ten contestants in the ITV reality show “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here.”

The 28-year-old who won a European gold medal in 2015 followed by an Olympic gold medal in Rio this past summer joins stars of TV, models, a footballer, dancers and a mathematics expert.

Quek is used to the hard slog of training having been part of the central programme at Great Britain and England Hockey’s Bisham Abbey training base, however with her admitting a fear of spiders, cockroaches and “anything else small” the trials and tribulations of the show will pose Quek an entirely different challenge.

The England defender, already in Australia for the show presented by TV duo Ant and Dec took to Twitter to confirm the news late last night:

You can see Quek’s biography as well as who she will be sharing her bush tucker trials with by visiting the ITV website.

The show airs for the first time Sunday November 13 at 9pm on ITV and will be on regularly with the tasks and eliminations determined by the public vote. So, let’s get the hockey family behind Sam and see if we can help her become queen of the jungle.
