Toby Stanley’s double- strike helped Mercia Lynx to come from behind to beat the Caledonian Cougars 4-2. The Cougars had led at the break after Alex Riddell’s penalty corner and Fraser Moran’s strike from open play, however the Lynx staged a grandstand second half to secure their first win of the tournament, 4-2.

Riddell’s penalty corner got the Cougars off to a flying start in the ninth minute and although Stanley cancelled it out nine minutes later with a corner of his own, Moran restored the lead in the 24th minute. It stayed that way until the 47th minute when Stanley stepped up again to slot home the equaliser.

The momentum shifted towards the Merica Lynx and with 53 minutes on the clock they got their noses in front for the first time in the match, via an open play goal from Angus Haigh. A minute later Tom Sheldon opened his account for the tournament to take the match out of the Cougars’ reach and secure a win for the Mercia Lynx.

Saxon Tigers 2 (1)

Pennine Pumas announced their arrival in the Futures Cup with a 4-2 win over the Saxon Tigers. It was a Jolly good start for the Pumas as a double strike from Zak Jolly and a brace from team mate Matthew White ensured three points in their first match of the tournament.

Jolly opened his account from a penalty corner in the 21st minute and then added a second from open play five minutes later. Matthew Blood reduced the arrears a minute later with his second goal of the competition but in the second half White came to the fore, grabbing a field goal a minute after the restart before adding a penalty corner three minutes later. Although Charlie Nunn clawed one back for the Tigers with eight minutes remaining the Pumas were not to be denied.
