Why you love hockey

We asked you on the England Hockey facebook page why you love hockey and we were over whelmed with the responses! We wanted to share with you why our sport is so great!

Andy Pandy

I’m 49 years old and I am still playing. I started from the age of 10 thanks to my PE teacher. I love the game it’s skilful, fast and keeps me fit and I have met some great friends through it. I play upfront mainly but can play anywhere apart from in goal. I love watching the hockey at the moment. I saw our girls take gold last year at the Euros and was so proud. Hockey is great all round and is a great family sport.

My daughter plays hockey and I've been to watch all her games since she was 10! (she is now 25) I enjoy watching the skills, the pace and the toughness of the players! It's a much better game than football!

It's fast, skillful, exciting and in my experience inclusive for all. The hockey
family is second to none...not just teammates, friends for life!!

I'm 47 and have been playing ever since I was 10 in goal! I love the competition, the camaraderie and the pace. Even though I'm slowing down a bit, I still have so much fun!

The hockey family sums it up perfectly. I have made so many friends and I am still playing at 50. I came back after a break when my daughter moved up to senior hockey. It is just fantastic to play alongside her, she's left me way behind now! GB players are incredible role models for any youngster to aspire to be!

I started playing hockey in my 20's having given up football due to the lack of social life. I wished I'd started earlier. It is a great game and full of fun people. I have encouraged both my teenage daughters to play. I am happy that when they leave home they will be able to move anywhere and join another hockey club and extend social circle.

I started playing hockey at 11 at school and by 12 was also playing for a ladies team. Despite a few years off at various times I have played for about 30 years. I eventually coached juniors and managed the girls development team. I was never a class player but I loved playing. Due to medical problems...knees etc...meant I had to retire a couple of years ago. I still get a buzz when watching GB!
