Hockey family mourns loss of Rhys Rubery

We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Rhys Rubery from Bridgend Hockey Club. Rhys passed away after being struck by a motorcycle, close to his hometown of Pencoed.

Adrian Hibbert, Chairman of Bridgend Hockey Club said:

“Rhys has been with us for ten years and was a talented player, breaking into the senior teams over the past few years and showing the promise to reach the highest levels.

“Rhys was a wonderful young man, and his energy and enthusiasm will be a sad loss to us. He will be dearly missed by all at Bridgend Hockey Club.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this tragic time. We would also like to thank all clubs that have sent messages of condolences.”

Many others, including neighbouring clubs and the wider hockey family, have also taken to Twitter to pay tribute to Rhys and to share their messages of support.

Jo Poupon, Vice Chair of the club commented:

“The whole of Bridgend Hockey Club is mourning the loss of this fine young man. Words could never fully express our sadness, but we can speak of our pride that we counted Rhys amongst our extended family.”
