Great Britain vs. Germany: The match by numbers

Great Britain are getting set to take on Germany in tonight’s massive Hero Hockey Champions Trophy clash this evening.

Great Britain started their campaign with a draw against World No1 Australia, followed by the disappointment of defeat by India. They then delighted the home fans with a comprehensive win over Korea to keep them in medal contention.

Germany have had mixed fortunes, securing two draws against India and Belgium before losing a thrilling encounter with Australia 4-3. As the two sides take to the field this evening we take a look at some of the facts stats and numbers in play.

Germany are the tournament’s top scorers so far this time out, netting ten times through six different players. Captain Florian Fuchs is one of four players to score twice.

Four of Germany’s goals have come from penalty corners.

On the flip side, Germany have also conceded the most goals so far, shipping 11 times in their opening three matches.

Great Britain have the meanest defence of the competition thus far, conceding just three times in three matches, with a clean sheet in their opener against Australia.

Ashley Jackson and David Condon have both scored twice so far in the tournament, Alastair Brogdon has also registered.

One of Great Britain’s goals has come from a penalty stroke, one penalty corner and three from open play.

The third quarter is Great Britain’s most productive, yielding two of their five goals. The third is Germany’s least productive. They have scored once in a third quarter, with each of the other quarters yielding three goals.

Tonight will mark a special occasion for Great Britain’s David Condon, who makes his 100th international appearance in the match.
