'How we can thrive without Aymar'

England v Argentina WCT 10072010

Despite the absence of legendary Luciana Aymar, Argentina can shine at the Hockey Champions Trophy and in Rio this summer – that’s the verdict of coach Gabriel Minadeo.

Aymar retired in 2014, with the likes of Carla Rebecchi, Belen Succi and Noel Barrinuevo rising to the fore in her absence.

The London silver medallists come back to the capital in June, and Minadeo told Reuters his team can shine. “I think Argentina has potential and the players to be able to replace 'Lucha' with another gameplan.

"We're going to be able to show Argentina are a power without having 'Lucha.’ What she had was that she resolved things for you when they got complicated, with an individual move, pulling something out of the hat.

"[But] Argentina has forwards who hurt rival teams. They have a passing game that is improving and is very dynamic and I think that's essential in hockey.”

Argentina’s opening Champions Trophy game is against hosts Great Britain on Saturday 18th June at 2pm, and it promises to be a fantastic day on the Olympic Park. Weekends are always particularly attractive to families and this is no different with u18s seats from just £5!
