Kevin Johnson named as Wales Head Coach

Hockey Wales are delighted to welcome Kevin Johnson, head coach of Women’s Premiership side Holcombe, as the new Head Coach of Wales Senior International Women’s Programme.

Kevin brings to the role a great deal of international experience from having worked with both England Hockey and GB Hockey, most recently as their Under 21 Coach and Talent Development Coach.

He is also the Director of Development alongside his coaching role at Holcombe and Director of Hockey at Bede’s School in his hometown of Eastbourne. Following the news of his appointment, he said:

“I am delighted and there are exciting times ahead for the whole group as we embark on a busy summer schedule ahead of World League. We will get to work immediately on developing our culture and identity as a group in such a way that matches our individual and collective aspirations. This will in turn determine the future performance standards we set for ourselves.”

The squad are now entering the next stage of preparation for round one of World League, which takes place in Cambrai this September. In the lead up to World League however, Wales will have a series of tough international test matches over the summer months to prepare them.

He added: “Personally, I am fully motivated for the journey ahead and working with a very proud sporting nation.”

Hockey Wales Head of Performance, Dan Clements said: “I was really impressed with the amount of applications and interest that we received regarding the role. As a result the recruitment process has been extremely competitive.

“We are really pleased to have Kevin joining our team here at Hockey Wales. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, so we are confident he will be an asset to the Senior Women and look forward to have him leading them on the international stage."
