Great Britain book place in Sultan of Johor Cup final

Jon Bleby

Two more goals from Luke Taylor and a strike from Sam French sealed a 3-0 win for Great Britain over Argentina and booked a place in the final for Jon Bleby’s side.

In what was a massive game for Great Britain, who needed a positive result to make the final, Taylor settled their nerves in the 14th minute slotting home a penalty corner to give them the lead.

Ten minutes later they doubled their lead with another penalty corner strike, this time from Sam French.

The second half was just two minutes old when Taylor made it 3-0 with his 9th goal of the tournament. Argentina suffered in the latter stages with a series of green and yellow cards reducing their numbers and it could even have been 4-0 but for James Simpson’s 65h minute strike being ruled out due to a foul in the build up. Great Britain closed out the win and took their place in the final as a result.

“We’ve redeemed ourselves from our performance yesterday so we’re really happy with today’s result. I’m really pleased with the team and we’re looking forward to the finals.” said Great Britain coach Jon Bleby.
