GBHL is a membership organisation comprising the three home nations and is the body responsible for delivering Great Britain’s success for hockey at the Olympic Games. Most of GBHL’s work is delegated to the nominated country’s CEO and Performance Director who are also the Great Britain  COO (‘GBCOO’) and Great Britain Performance Director (‘GBPD’) respectively. Head Coaches of the nominated country are also Great Britain Head Coaches. Key tasks of the GBHL Board are thus to undertake:

• Approving GBHL’s submission to UK Sport for funding the GB performance plan – a supplementary submission to the individual funding submissions by each of the 3 home nations.
• Conducting a formal annual review of the three Home Nations, and in particular the nominated country’s progress against plan whereby the GBPD and Head Coaches present what they have achieved.
• In the run up to the Olympics, reviewing the performance of the nominated country against clearly defined criteria. A nominated country is then chosen for a further four years after the Olympics and FIH advised accordingly.
• Communications and fostering relationships with all partner organisations.
• Ensuring GBHL fulfils its statutory responsibilities.

It is likely that the GBHL Board will meet three times a year until the fourth year of the Olympic cycle when it is likely to meet more frequently.

The President also acts as host, on behalf of GBHL, at international events staged in this country in which GB competes. He/she will work with the GBCOO to ensure that such duties are clearly divided between them at such events.

The President will be responsible for liaison with the GBCOO.

The President will be responsible for liaising with the FIH, BOA and UK Sport for any GBHL constitutional or funding matters but may choose to delegate to the nominated country specific duties as he/she sees fit.

To enable the President to be fully briefed on the performance of the nominated country he/she would be expected to attend Board meetings of the nominated country or at the very least the performance related items on such agendas.
