Gutsy Great Britain lose to in-form Argentina

Great Britain women after their defeat to Argentina at London 2012 Olympic Games

Despite a valiant performance, Great Britain’s women agonisingly missed out on a place in the London 2012 Olympics hockey final as they went down to a 2-1 defeat against Argentina at the Riverbank Arena tonight.

First half goals from Noel Barrioneuvo from a penalty corner and a field goal from Carla Rebecchi was enough to send the world’s number two side into the final, while Great Britain’s consolation goal came from forward Alex Danson.

The home nation still has a chance to claim a medal when they play New Zealand in the Bronze Medal match on Friday afternoon at 15:30. Argentina’s reward is a Gold Medal match-up against the Netherlands that evening.
