Trying to work out what GB need to do to reach the semi finals of the Olympic Games for the first time since Seoul 1988? Ponder no more with our simple explanation.

POOL A

Teams in the mix for a spot in the semi finals: Australia, Great Britain, Pakistan, Spain

Fixtures: Australia v Pakistan (10:45), Spain v Great Britain (19:00)

Scenarios:

GB win – GB progress to the semi finals irrespective of other results. GB would progress as Pool A winners if Australia fail to beat Pakistan.

GB draw – GB progress to the semi finals irrespective of other results. GB would progress as Pool A runners up with Australia topping the pool if they get at least a draw v Pakistan. If Pakistan beat Australia, they’d top the pool ahead of GB.

GB lose – GB do not progress to the semi finals. Spain would progress to the semi finals.

Australia requires a draw or win against Pakistan to progress. Pakistan must beat Australia to progress.

Germany lose and Korea win – Korea progress to the semi finals at Germany’s expense. Korea would progress as Pool B runner up.
