Great Britain Hockey athletes update

Following the weekend’s Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament – the Olympic Test Event – below is a brief update on the injuries sustained by British athletes. 

Women’s Squad: Alex Danson & Crista Cullen
Alex Danson (shoulder) and Crista Cullen (ankle) sustained injuries in Great Britain’s final match against Argentina on Sunday. Both have undergone scans this week.  They will likely miss the Investec London Cup (5-10 June) but subject to rehabilitation will be available for selection to the Olympic squad. 

Men’s Squad: Simon Mantell, Harry Martin, Richard Smith
Simon Mantell broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot during Great Britain’s match against India last Thursday. On Tuesday he had a pin inserted into his foot and he is expected to wear a protective boot for the next six-to-seven weeks.

Harry Martin sustained a facial injury (cheek bone) in the match against India on Sunday. He will receive specialist advice later in the week. 

Richard Smith broke his nose in the match against Australia on Saturday.  He is seeing a specialist consultant on Friday. 

Great Britain’s women are next in action at the Investec London Cup, 5-10 June. It’s the last chance to see GB in the flesh ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games.  Catch them as they take are joined in Chiswick by the best in the world – the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, Australia and Ireland.
