Day One: Great Britain Super League

Pennine Pumas and Saxon Tigers both got off to a great start to the Great Britain Hockey Super League after their men’s and women’s teams both recorded wins on the first day of play.

Further goals from captain Henry Weir, Marc Edwards, Chris Griffiths and a brace from Andy Bull completed the victory.

The Pennine Pumas women then took on the Cougars and the Scottish team managed to keep Pennine at bay for 26 minutes before Harriet Pearce swept in from a penalty corner.

Giselle Ansley doubled the lead after 40 minutes before Anna Thompson made sure of the points with a third.

Saxon Tigers men faced Celtic Panthers and were in inspired form hitting nine past George Ratcliffe in the Panthers net.

Nick Cooper hit the first Tigers goal in the ninth minute of the game and in the final minute, Tom Carson ended proceedings with the final goal.

Dan Shingles, Nick Bandurak, Peter Jackson and Andrew Piper were among their other scorers. The scorer of Celtic’s solitary goal was Dale Hutchinson.

In the final game, it was back to the women’s teams with Saxon Tigers taking on Celtic Panthers.

It took 26 minutes for the deadlock to be broken but eventually Tigers took the chance to lead through Stephanie Addison.

Panthers managed to get in at half time still trailing by a single goal but couldn’t rally in the second half and Saxon struck again with Rebecca Halle applying the finish.

Zoe Leach made it three on the hour before Els Mansell added the fourth and final goal with two minutes left on the clock.
