Richard was born in Bridgwater and now lives in Datchet, Kent. He made his international debut on 10 February 2003 and is a Marketing Account Manager. He is the older brother of Simon Mantell, also in the GB squad. Richard's favourite other hockey player is Floris Jan Bovelander.
